FRA 2003-2005 Strategic Plan
General Goals
  • Promote Forestry Activism and Education
Challenge all FRA members through personal involvement and commitment to defend the right to grow and harvest timber, to manufacture and market forest products, to educate our communities about the value of professional forest management and wood harvesting on private and public forest lands, and to cooperate with allied organizations on forestry activism efforts of common interest.

  • Support the Sustainable Forestry Initiative®
Work with logging contractors, wood suppliers, wood procurement professionals, land management professionals, landowners, and consuming facility management to identify and promote acceptance of efficient and environmentally sound forest practices in order to preserve the right to grow, manage, and harvest wood fiber on a sustainable basis from private and public forest lands.

  • Improve the Forest Work Environment
Provide information and programs to create and promote safer and more attractive work environments for forest workers and improve the image of forest work to the current work force, future work force, policy makers, and the public.
The Forest Resources Association fully supports the projects and activities of the National Timber Harvesting and Transportation Safety (THATS) Foundation.

  • Safeguard and Enhance the Relationship between Independent Contractors and Consuming Mills
Foster better business relationships and mutual respect between wood suppliers and consumers by: improving two-way communications, promoting a better understanding of mutual dependence, encouraging professionalism and ethical treatment of all parties, and providing assistance when the legitimate right to contract is improperly challenged by regulatory, legislative, or judicial action.

  • Improve Communication and Information to Members
In a timely and cost-effective manner, FRA will collect, compile, and disseminate useful technical and general industry information to members via electronic and paper means to better assist in their communication and management efforts.

  • Improve Operational Efficiency of Forestry-Related Systems
Identify and create opportunities for the exchange of information on the state and sustainability of the industry, machines, systems, and techniques which show promise for improving the efficiency, environmental soundness, and safety of forest management, harvesting, transportation, wood fiber production, and product utilization.
